Thanks, Del Mar Times!

Bunnyfest fun will celebrate International Rabbit Day

Rabbits are popular as house pets all over the world and so, in their honor, Bunnyfest 2010 will have a global theme, taking place on International Rabbit Day, Sept. 26, with festivities from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at San Dieguito County Park, 1628 Lomas Santa Fe Drive at Highland Drive, Del Mar.

Bunnyfest is an annual fundraiser organized by San Diego House Rabbit Society.

“This premier event gives us an opportunity to connect with the community and provide resources for anyone living with a rabbit companion,” said Judith Pierce, chapter manager. “We are here to help support San Diegans and provide the most up-to-date rabbit care information to people.

“Proceeds from this event benefit abandoned rabbits throughout San Diego and southwest Riverside counties all year long. This year’s event promises to be a lot of fun!”

The festival booths will represent dozens of different countries, with information about how rabbits live diversely.

There will be Bunny Harness Races at 11:30 a.m. and Bunny Jeopardy at 2 p.m. Kids’ Korner will be active throughout the day with crafts and face-painting.

The event will also feature an Italian Cafe, a Guatemalan Marketplace, a Holland duty-free shop selling commemorative T-shirts and other premiums, and more than 30 vendors offering everything from hand-etched glass to organic fresh herbs.

The silent auction will include bunny-themed jewelry, clothing, serving ware, linens, and house wares. It will also include hotel stays, spa packages, weekend trips, restaurant certificates and more.

Rabbits are welcome at Bunnyfest, in a pet stroller, a carrier, or on a harness. Bunnies can be checked in to the Lagomorph Lounge, where experts will oversee bunny siesta time while guests shop.

Several exotic-trained veterinary clinics will answer questions about the latest advances in rabbit medical care.

Acacia Animal Health Center of Escondido is sponsoring the event.

Bunnyfest is free and open to the public. Parking is $3.
